Monitoring a SQL 2005 Pre-Emptive Failover Instructional Video

Typical instructional design and development strategies beg for a detailed design doc. Instructional designers pour over these documents, and for good reason. The design doc serves teams immensely during the creation of effective training content.

Sometimes though, you just won't have time to write a detailed design doc (sorry, that's the truth). Many times, instructional designers find themselves in the hot seat because the client's screaming they need a solution--and they need it now.

This project was no exception. The goal of this presentation was to provide a self-driven presentation IT administrators use to learn more about maximizing system uptime and implementing contingent fail over strategies to provide continuous data flow throughout an enterprise.

For this project:

  • I collaborated with DELL Sales and subject matter experts to write a loose content outline

  • Using my own knowledge of systems management, I quickly wrote this script and shared it with the VO talent for recording (via email)

  • I collaborated with our graphic design team to identify graphic assets that could be quickly created and effectively communicate this instructional content visually

  • Using Captivate, I developed this asset and delivered to client on time—it was a raging success
